Labor, Social Justice, and the Return of the Strike with Deepa Kumar

Over the last two years teachers from West Virginia to Los Angeles have gone on strike and won historic gains, fighting for better wages but also for the common good of the community.Professor Deepa Kumar, past-president of the Rutgers AAUP- AFT faculty union, will draw lessons for labor and higher education by discussing the historic contract victory at Rutgers in 2019.
Dr. Deepa Kumar is a Rutgers University professor and an award- winning scholar and activist. She is the recipient of the Dallas Smythe award for her engaged scholarship and the Georgina Smith award for her work on gender and race equity. She is the author of more than 80 journal articles, book chapters, and articles in independent and mainstream media.
